    The documentation problem is discussed that arises in getting all the many items included in a computer program prepared in a timely fashion and keeping them all correct and mutually consistent during the life of the program. The proposed approach to the problem is to collect all the necessary information into a single document, which is maintained with computer assistance during the life of the program and from which the required subdocuments can be extracted as desired. Implementation of this approach requires a package of programs for computer editorial assistance and is facilitated by certain programming practices that are discussed

    Reply to Comment on 'Critical behaviour in the relaminarization of localized turbulence in pipe flow'

    This is a Reply to Comment arXiv:0707.2642 by Hof et al. on Letter arXiv:physics/0608292 which was subsequently published in Phys Rev Lett, 98, 014501 (2007). In our letter it was reported that in pipe flow the median time τ\tau for relaminarisation of localised turbulent disturbances closely follows the scaling τ1/(RecRe)\tau\sim 1/(Re_c-Re). This conclusion was based on data from collections of 40 to 60 independent simulations at each of six different Reynolds numbers, Re. In the Comment, Hof et al. estimate τ\tau differently for the point at lowest Re. Although this point is the most uncertain, it forms the basis for their assertion that the data might then fit an exponential scaling τexp(ARe)\tau\sim \exp(A Re), for some constant A, supporting Hof et al. (2006) Nature, 443, 59. The most certain point (at largest Re) does not fit their conclusion and is rejected. We clarify why their argument for rejecting this point is flawed. The median τ\tau is estimated from the distribution of observations, and it is shown that the correct part of the distribution is used. The data is sufficiently well determined to show that the exponential scaling cannot be fit to the data over this range of Re, whereas the τ1/(RecRe)\tau\sim 1/(Re_c-Re) fit is excellent, indicating critical behaviour and supporting experiments by Peixinho & Mullin 2006.Comment: 1 page, 1 figur

    Euro-American discussion document on entry and advanced level practice in nuclear medicine

    The European Association of Nuclear Medicine Technologist Committee (EANMTC) and the Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologist Section (SNMTS) meet biannually to consider matters of mutual importance. These meetings are held during the SNM and EANM annual conferences. For several years, within these meetings, EANMTC and SNMTS have considered the value of having a Euro-American initiative in defining entry-level and advanced practice competencies for nuclear medicine radiographers (NMRs) and nuclear medicine technologists (NMTs). In June 2009, during the SNM annual conference in Toronto, it was agreed that a Euro-American working party would be established to consider advanced practice. It was recognized that any consideration of a definition for advanced practice would be predicated on an understanding or definition of entry-level practice. As a result, both types of practice would have to be considered. This discussion document outlines some of the background issues associated with advanced practice generally and specifically within nuclear medicine. The primary purpose of this document is to stimulate debate, on a Euro-American level, about the perceived value of advanced practice for NMRs and NMTs within nuclear medicine and to develop an internationally accepted list of entry-level competencies and scope of practice for NMRs and NMTs within nuclear medicine
